G.H.A PRIMARY SWIMMING GALA

Without a doubt, when one mentions ‘swimming’, Greenhill Academy is the first school that comes to anyone’s mind.

The school that has managed to scoop several national swimming titles and medals takes swimming activities very seriously and aims to consistently groom its pupils into the best swimmers.

This was clearly evident during the school’s internal primary swimming Gala where, pupils from Nursery to primary six showcased their enviable swimming skills through different strokes like front crawl, butterfly, freestyle to mention but a few.

The first half of the day that was opened with a special dance from the school staff, saw pupils from the lower section (Nursery to P.2) from both Greenhill Academy Kibuli and Greenhill Primary School Buwaate participate in races like the needle race, treasure hunt and kickboard races.

The event was concluded by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Twaha Ssemakula, Head of Sports Greenhill Academy Secondary who thanked the parents for supporting their children and urged them to encourage them to keep swimming even after they leave Greenhill Academy. He then went ahead to award medals and trophies to the pupils and houses that had excelled in the competition.

In this section, the Swimmer of the year- Boys was Joshua Mandre-P.2 and Swimmer of the year-Girls was Aliza Sarah-P.1. The winning house in this section was Purple house, the first runner up was Orange followed by Red house. Greenhill Primary School Buwaate pupils were also awarded for coming first in races like; 15m Kickboard on the back - P.1 Girls, 15m Noodle Race - Nursery (Girls) and Treasure Hunt - Nursery (Girls).

Later in the afternoon, the other half of the event that catered for classes P.3 to P.6 was held. The races these classes competed included, breast stroke, freestyle, back stroke, front crawl and butterfly.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Robert Kasekende, an economist, sportsman and a parent of the school commended the school for the great work they are doing and pointed out that the swimmers keep improving from time to time.

He then also went ahead to award medals to the pupils and houses that had excelled in this section.
