We do understand that it may not be an easy task for parents to engage their children in academic activities during this recess. Here are some tips to guide you our dear parents on how you can effectively support your child's learning while at home.
- Set up a daily schedule that shows all activities planned for the day including lessons, lunch, exercise, and brain breaks. This will allow your child to follow the routine they are usually used to hence, easily adapt to their new learning environment at home.
- Encourage your child to read an interesting book; this could be a reader or storybook, which is bound to grow your child's grammar and comprehension skills.
- Partake in some creative activities like drawing and designing to tap into your child's creative abilities.
- Make time for play and to be active; remember all work and no play make Jack a dull boy. So, take some time to exercise, dance and play games such as hide and seek (tepo), nyama nyama, board games and skipping
- Use checklists as children enjoy ticking off what they have completed.
- Remember to praise children for meeting learning objectives. Positive reinforcement is an important aspect when it comes to encouraging children to take part in learning.
Enjoy bonding with your child and stay safe. We can't wait to see you soon.
