In order to set the yardstick for assemblies and academic work, the teachers of the
Greenhill Schools always take charge of the first assemblies of the term. On the 6 th
February 2020, the Greenhill Primary School Buwaate teachers opened this year’s
exciting series of teachers’ assemblies with a marvellous assembly themed ‘Christ in
Me’. This was then followed by another jam-packed assembly themed ‘A Decade of
Passion and Excellence’ by the Greenhill Academy Primary Kibuli teachers staged on the
7 th February 2020. This series of teachers’ assemblies was concluded on the 10 th of
February 2020 by the Greenhill Academy Secondary teachers who left their students
amazed with a breath taking assembly themed ‘Celebrity Unity in Diversity in Greenhill’.
The assemblies comprised many items that were all breathtakingly interesting. These
included powerful praise and worship sessions, prayers, mimes, skits, traditional and
creative dances.
The praise and worship sessions of each of the assemblies were full of energy and
spiritually moving.
When it came to the different dances presented, one cannot find the words befitting to
describe the creativity displayed by the teachers. These were indeed exquisite and left
the audience of excited students impressed by the skills and talent their teachers have.
There is no doubt that all the items presented were diverse and fully depicted the
themes of each of the assemblies.
The skit presented by the Secondary teachers demonstrated the need for us all to
embrace our differences and function as a unit; that of the Greenhill Buwaate teachers
depicted how students that do not have Christ in them behave poorly and how they can
be helped to reform while, that of the Greenhill Primary Kibuli teachers showed that; in
order for students to excel in all they do, they need to be passionate.
Academic items were also incorporated in each of the assemblies for example; the
secondary physics teachers brought the Newton’s Law of Motion to life with a creative
practical item.
The remarks by the different offices of the school at the tail end of each of the
assemblies were informative and gave the students the positive energy to begin the new
term.
Welcome back to school; cheers to yet another beautiful term and opportunity to be
excellent in all aspects.
KABUGO TYRA NASSALI,
S.4 RED 2020.

Friday 08th November 2019 brought to a close a buzzy week that had students running helter-skelter polishing their presentations for the first-ever clubs’ bonanza for the secondary section. It was no easy fete.
This glamourous event kicked off at 03:00pm at the school’s assembly quadrangle. The theme for the day was “Talent Expressed!” Indeed, by close of that day, the theme had been exhausted by the stunning exhibitions from the various clubs.
Mrs. Ritah Kavuma, the Deputy Headteacher in charge of the Lower Primary Section, Greenhill Academy Primary Kibuli, graced the bonanza as the Chief Guest. From the preparations to the presentations on stage, the day promised a cutthroat competition.
The battle stage was shared among the following clubs:
- Music Dance And Drama Club
- Art And Design Club
- Poetry Club
- Debate And Public Speaking Club
- Journalism Club
The table of adjudicators ensured a fair fight and the vocal emcees of the day; Ms. Hamisa Faruki and Mr. Nyang Andrew led onto the stage event after event. From the beaming faces of the audience, it was clear the entire school was in for an exciting afternoon.
Notable among the exhilarating presentations were the dazzling well-choreographed dances from the MDD club. It was a sight to marvel at. The art and design club brought the Louis Vuitton runway to stage with the amazing fashion show. The creativity in the designs was ingenious.
Poetry recitations and news items were among the mix of activities that afternoon. The news anchors got the audience ‘glued’ to the imaginary television set. The costuming and the perfect articulation of words with a touch of foreign accent did the trick.
With the above buzz of activities going on, then came the debate and public speaking club. It was the intriguing arguments raised during the various debate formats and the swiftness in thoughts from the various speakers that left the audience awed.
The climax of the day was during the public speaking contest where students were required to imitate an international public orator. This was when it all came down to the late Nelson Mandela. Donned in an African print shirt with ‘grey’ hair, a one Okiria Aldo Jude gave the audience a reincarnation of the African icon. From that point on, it was clear that the debate and public speaking club was going for the gold. It was a sight to envy.
When all was said and done, the adjudicators had the gruelling task of ranking all these amazing pieces. The chief adjudicator of the day came on at the tail end of the event to announce the positions and at that moment, one could hear their heartbeat!
The final positions were as below:
- Debate And Public Speaking Club
- Music Dance And Drama Club
- Art And Design Club
- Journalism Club
- Poetry Club
The victor club was awarded a trophy and prize money amidst cheers and celebrations. The first and second runners-up got trophies each. It was the perfect day to waive off the learners for their end of year examinations.
HAMISA FARUKI BIBI, 5SCI.

At the mention of the name “Greenhill Mobi”, the pupils, staff, and parents of the Greenhill Schools beam with excitement.
Greenhill Mobi is a Mobile Phone Application developed by the Greenhill Academy ICT department. The App which is available on both Google Play Store and App Store for iPhones is exclusive to Greenhill parents.
This new innovation was officially launched in each of the Greenhill Schools which are; Greenhill Primary School Buwaate; Greenhill Academy Primary Kibuli and Greenhill Academy Secondary Kibuli on the 24th of October, 25th of October and 28th of October 2019 respectively.
While speaking during the Greenhill Academy Primary Kibuli assembly, the Rector of the schools, Mrs. Joy Veronica Maraka informed the audience that this innovation is one of the many ways the Greenhill Schools are integrating ICT into their operations. She further added that Greenhill Mobi was developed to ease communication between the parents and the school.
With the App, a Greenhill Parent can now track their child’s academics and performance in other co-curricular aspects through the Academics Module; interact with the school through the Chat Module as well as, track school events related to their child.
I had the rare opportunity to explore the App and I was really impressed by its well-developed and intuitive interface. This invention truly attests to the brilliant Ugandan minds that exist among us. Through my interaction with the ICT department of the school, I was reliably informed that more exciting features are yet to be introduced on the App; this is only the beginning of this exciting new mode of communication.
Are you a Greenhill Parent? Do not miss out on this new development; download Greenhill Mobi today!

KASEWA EMMANUELLA;
Katalemwa Cheshire home is a place where children with disabilities are taken.
On Tuesday 8th October 2019, I visited Katalemwa Cheshire home. It was my first time to visit and I was very excited. I went along with other children from P. 1 to P. 6.
When we arrived at the home, we were welcomed by a very kind lady. Each of us told her our names and she then introduced us to the children we found at the home.
She told them that we are the people who donated to them a number of items. The lady then took us to tour the dormitories where the children sleep. Each child has their own caretaker.
I was touched by one child who we were told got crippled due to lack of oxygen supply at birth. I was humbled to see that in spite of the disabilities the children had, they could do so many things like sewing, carpentry and art; this really motivated me.
Before our departure, the children received donations from the pupils of Greenhill Academy which included soap, clothes, and sugar.
We had a memorable photo session and our new friends at the home gave us big hugs of goodbye before we boarded the bus back to Greenhill Primary School Buwaate.
If there is one thing that I learned from the visit to Cheshire home, it is, that people might be disabled on the outside but they have huge hearts full of love and they too can do a lot of things.
This visit has forever changed my life.
