“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” On Monday 17th June the newly elected prefects 2019/2020 of Greenhill Academy Secondary Kibuli embarked on their leadership journey by taking an oath to serve the school to the best of their abilities during a colorful Swearing in Ceremony themed, Leadership is an action, not a position. The ceremony was graced by the Head of School Greenhill Primary School Buwaate, Mr. Benon Takirambudde.
After a moving praise and worship session, the ceremony was officially opened with an introduction of the theme by Mayeku Richard, the Outgoing Student Council Chairman.
In his address, he described leadership as an aspect that requires the best team and is about taking responsibility and not making excuses. He also emphasized that Leaders live to serve the people responsible for their position; good leaders must first become servants adding that, a leader is defined by the quality and the integrity of their actions.
A clear sign of democracy; the outgoing leaders could be seen encouraging and happily handing over their offices’ instruments of power to their successors who were smartly clad in their new prefects’ uniform. Representing the outgoing prefects, the outgoing Head prefect Swatang George thanked the school for their support and encouraged the new incumbents to raise the bar even higher as the rest of the school was ecstatic and could not wait to see what they have in store. He urged them to work as a team with the school concluding his address with the quote, ‘Change happens when ordinary people come together for a common goal’.
The above nostalgic speech was then followed by a speech from the newly elected, Head Prefect Ronnie Ninziza who appreciated the work done by the outgoing cabinet. She urged her cabinet to work together as a team and toil to produce the fruit that Greenhill expects them to produce. She also encouraged the team to remain focused, disciplined and to never give up when unforeseen circumstances arise.
After the Head of School, Mr. Francis Twesigawe and the Rector, Mrs. Joy Veronica Maraka had addressed the audience both thanking the outgoing prefects for the work well done and encouraging the newly elected prefects, it was now time for the Guest of Honor to share a few words of wisdom with the students.
Mr. Benon opened his address with a story about Abraham Lincoln’s life and the struggles and failures He went through before becoming one of the most influential presidents of the United States of America urging the students to never give up nor be derailed by the challenges they may face.
He urged the leaders to be exemplary; empathetic; spiritual; to always plan and prioritize and, to never act impulsively. He further encouraged them to always be willing to learn because leadership is about humility and continuous learning. With reference to Romans 13: 1-12, Mr. Benon concluded his speech by urging the school to respect and work with the Leaders because God has chosen for them.
Something quite rare, the parents of the different prefects too attended the ceremonies and had a chance to witness their daughters and sons take on an important journey that will indeed shape the rest of their life; surely a memory never to forget.
We would like to thank the students for taking part in the voting process and the electoral commission, teachers and school administration that ensured the whole process was free and fair.
To the outgoing cabinets; we would like to thank you for the great and exemplary work done.
To the incoming leaders lead by Ninziza Ronnie the incoming Head prefect and Tongun Emmanuel the incoming Students’ Council Chairperson; we congratulate you upon being elected into your respective offices. We wish you the best of luck and look forward to interacting with you.
To everyone out there; you too are a leader in different aspects. Leadership comes from Use it wisely!

I am Grace Mukayuhi; a Greenhill Academy Primary Kibuli product (1995-1998) turned Greenhill Primary School Buwaate parent from 2014 to date.
I was a pupil at Greenhill Academy Primary (Kibuli) from 1995 till 1998; my experience while there was a rich one. Little wonder then, that when I had children of my own, Greenhill Academy would be my first-choice school for them.
I have fond memories, of the Late Mrs. Wambuzi, Mr. Lubwama Sam, Mr. Odoi, Mr. Higiro, Mrs. Winyi, and many other teachers. Greenhill Academy offered us a truly holistic education; we had sports, drama, music and dance, cookery, arts, and crafts, etc. It is at Greenhill that my interest in keeping up with current affairs was birthed since we had to review the newspapers daily, read particular articles, and write summaries of the same; you couldn’t enter the class without ‘news’ being checked and signed.
Greenhill inculcated in me great values among which was the notion of ‘excellence in all you do’; we were trained to deliver 100% in everything that we did be it academics, sports, music, and dance, arts and crafts, etc. I currently work as the Information Integrity Manager at Compuscan CRB and I still aim at attaining excellence in all that I do; I am solution-oriented in all situations and aim at exceeding each client’s expectations. Even as a mother, I do remind my children to give in their best in everything that they do.
Another great value I obtained while at Greenhill was paying attention to detail; to date, I’m detail-oriented and overly neat in the way I write and handle assignments. My friends often tease me about using different colors of ink as I make notes. I’m one person that loves to plan events and activities, and I will have everything handled in an orderly manner; as a result, I’m the unofficial ‘events manager’ within my family and inner circle.
It is at Greenhill Academy that the virtue of respect and gratitude for all persons was born in me. After every lesson, we would stand up and thank our teachers thus, “Thank you, Teacher, for your kind service rendered.” We were taught to respect each and every person in life; from the cooks, cleaners, teachers to the headmistress. Every person is to be treated with the utmost respect. As someone that now works with customers and works to have their complaints and queries resolved in the shortest time possible, the aspect of respect has helped me immensely; each individual I encounter is treated with utmost respect and courtesy.
One of my ‘sternest’ memories is one where, during her lesson, I glanced at my watch; Mrs. Wambuzi gave me a serious tongue-lashing about how rude that was! Till today, I cannot look at my watch while in a meeting or while in any congregation.
To me, Greenhill Academy is not just a school; it is an experience; one that I thoroughly enjoyed, and one that my offspring are currently enjoying. I am proudly a Greenhill product turned Greenhill parent.

THE SCHOOL WATER AND SANITATION (SWAS) CLUB’S ASSEMBLY.
At Greenhill Academy, we value our environment and seek to protect it and; it is no wonder that we have vibrant School Water and Sanitation (SWAS) clubs in both our primary and secondary sections. The morning of Monday 10th June 2019 was when the Greenhill Academy School Water And Sanitation Club (SWAS) had an opportunity to lead the Secondary school assembly under the theme: “Nurturing Water Sources Together’’.
The major objective of this Assembly was to share knowledge and awareness about water, sanitation and the Environment. The assembly was graced by our dear Rector of the Greenhill Academy schools, Mrs. J.V Maraka; the guest of honor Ms. Esther Chebet – the SWAS coordinator at the National Water And Sewerage Cooperation; the head teacher, Greenhill Academy secondary section, Mr. Francis Twesigawe among other administrators. The unique guests of the morning were the SWAS stars from Greenhill Academy Primary, Kibuli who performed a moving poem about environmental conservation.
The assembly began with an opening prayer and an intense session of Praise and worship. This session would later end with intercessions which ushered us into another educative session in line with the theme of the assembly. The items of this session included a skit on the need to conserve our environment; a quiz on general knowledge relating to water and sanitation; a captivating poetry recital from the primary school SWAS stars and an another poetry piece from the SWAS Club secondary, entitled ‘’Let’s nurture the Nile; the quencher of our thirst’’. The club drove further their message home with the vigorous dances during the entertainment session in the form of traditional dances and contemporary dance.
As a club, we extend our sincere gratitude to the school administration, the SWAS club Patron, Mrs. Victoria Mwesigwa and the President, Christabella Keza S.3 for guiding the younger generation into caring for our water sources, environment, and good sanitation in and outside of the school.
Let’s save our environment; let’s save life.

GREENHILL ACADEMY, SECONDARY STAFF ASSEMBLY, TERM 2 2019.
The secondary school section had the beginning of term two staff assembly on Wednesday 05th June, 2019 from 07:00am to 09:00am.
Being the first assembly and above all, led by the teaching staff, the students were ecstatic about the morning. One could easily tell from their beaming faces that something educative and exciting was about to unravel.
The week’s theme was ‘The price of success is hard work’. Truly, the teachers had put in the hard work and that was exhibited in the numerous items presented.
Among the items were the passionate prayers said for the entire Greenhill Academy family; the exciting and comprehensive news items in different languages; and the amazing dramatic poem that got the students delighted.
The climax of the assembly was the traditional dance from Eastern Uganda in particular, Busoga land. The rich costuming added much colour to the presentation that saw many students and guests join in the dance. It was a masterpiece of a presentation.
After the dance, normalcy was only restored among the students when the head teacher came on to address the school on the week’s theme and other crucial expectations from the learners as they gear up for the new school term. When all was said and done, the staff assembly ended setting off the entire school to begin an excellent term.
We welcome you all to the new term; ensure to give nothing but the best.

Greenhill Academy Marks Its 5th Annual Men's Day
As we gear up to celebrate Father’s Day on the 21st of June 2019, it is of great significance to also recognize all gentlemen-both young and old for the contribution they make in society. In light of this, Greenhill Academy has for the past five years set aside a Men’s Day where men are celebrated and given a special assembly to showcase the various talents they possess to the students, staff, and parents; something quite rare in many schools.
This year’s theme was ‘The Excellence in Me’ and the day’s main event — an assembly held on the 31st May 2019 — was presided over by the Deputy Inspector General of the Uganda Police Force, Major General Steven Sabiti Muzeyi.
The men clad in white and black showcased their singing and dancing skills as they opened up the assembly with an energetic praise and worship session followed by a message from Rev. Gerald Ayebare who encouraged the boys and men in the audience to execute all their duties just as Daniel in the Bible did; diligently and faithfully.
This session was then followed by a quiz about different male personalities to remind us of the achievements men have made. With the same vigour as they started, the men performed the famous Ekitagururo dance reminding us to be proud of our culture and heritage. Football is part of many men and boys and it is no wonder a dribbling challenge was also included as one of the items of the assembly.
The creativity of the teachers was further showcased when they presented an original song composition and creative dance composition of dances from the past such as calypso and running man to the present dance styles that left many of the pupils excited and the older generation nostalgic.
The Head of the Primary Section Kibuli, Moses Kirinya informed the audience that the 5th Annual Men’s Day celebration was special as it coincided with the school’s silver jubilee anniversary. He encouraged the audience to be excellent in all that they do before inviting the Greenhill Academy Rector, Joy Veronica Maraka to also address the learners, parents, and staff.
She congratulated the men of Greenhill Academy and emphasized: “just: as we celebrate the girl child, it is also important to celebrate the boy child.” She urged the old and young men present to be good men who she described as "secure and confident but not arrogant; treat everyone with respect; know that giving respect and agreement are not the same; know that the key in life is to give kindness, humility, and grace adding that; for a good man there is no one that is little”.
Major General Muzeyi commended the teachers for their energy and great performance before recalling that Jesus Christ was the true depiction of a man of substance — gentle, wise and full of love adding that all men should emulate him. He added that “as men, we should strive to be the very image of God. Like Christ, men of integrity and honesty. We have an obligation to bring up the younger generation into men of substance.”

On the 30th of May 2019, the Greenhill Primary School Buwaate Teachers welcomed back their pupils in style with a jam-packed assembly themed, ‘My Attitude My Strength'.
During this exciting assembly, the teachers showcased their music, dance and drama skills through various entertaining presentations.
The assembly was opened up with an uplifting Praise, Worship, Bible reading session and moving prayers. This session was then followed by a mime from the Kindergarten teachers entitled ‘I believe’, which many of the learners found very uplifting.
The teachers then went ahead to showcase their amazing drama skills in a captivating skit called, ‘The naughty children’ which narrated the story of two naughty children who were brought up to be undisciplined and disrespectful by their parents. With the intervention of other parents from society, these children were then helped to realize their mistakes and changed to become better people.
At Greenhill Academy, we take pride in who we are and it’s no wonder that the items that followed which were, the traditional Akogo dance and a traditional instrumental composition where the teachers showcased their skills as far as playing instruments such as the drums, thumb piano, xylophone to mention but a few is concerned.
The assembly was concluded by a speech from the Head of School and the Rector, Mrs. Joy Veronica Maraka who thanked the teachers for having outdone themselves and indeed set the pace for the upcoming assemblies of the term.
To our teachers, thank you for the beautiful assembly.
Keep Extending your Horizons.

S.6 LITERATURE PLAY 2019; BEFORE A FALL
On the 2nd of May 2019, the Senior Six Literature class staged a play – ‘Before a Fall’ - an adaptation of Okoiti Omtatah's ‘Lwanda Magere’. The exciting play that left the audience amazed was chiefly directed by Nuwamanya Charlene, who was assisted by Nakayemba Catherine.
The protagonist, Lwanda, is a Luo warrior akin to the Biblical Samson. His prowess on the battlefield is legendary, and his indestructibility leaves the Lang'o (traditional enemies of the Luo) fearful and significantly declining in prominence.
Playing on his weaknesses for the fairer sex, the Lang'o devise a means to bring down their nemesis. Warning after warning is sounded, to no avail, as Lwanda's physical power and great fame have clouded his sense of judgment. Eventually, in a strange albeit predictable twist, Lwanda fulfills a mysterious prophecy.
This is a story of power, fame, oracles, gods, warriors, intrigue, love and tears... 'Every man is a fruit of his inner will, and every day spent in toil, a testing of that will.'
As the Literature class, it is difficult to fully express how happy we are that this play was a success. We are truly grateful for the tremendous support and tireless guidance that we were given by everyone that walked the journey with us.
Below are pictures from the different scenes of the play.
Mayeku Richard, S.6 L/D.

The 25th of April 2019 was a day filled with so much color and joy as Greenhill Primary School Buwaate held its 1st Annual Thanksgiving service themed, “Victory Comes From God (1st Chronicles 29; 11-13)”.
The service that saw Rev. Paulson Tumutegyerize deliver a moving sermon about being grateful for what the Lord has done for us and his victory in all situations attracted various stakeholders of the school from the current students, staff, Old Students, Board members to other invited Guests.
The service kept the audience very entertained with breathtaking presentations from the Staff choir clad in their Gomesis and Kanzus; the Nursery and Primary pupils clad in very creative and beautiful costumes. The parents too did not miss out on the action as they were also seen singing a hymn during the service.
The event saw pupils who excelled academically throughout the year 2018 and in the PLE exams as well as, staff whose performance was exceptional during the previous year commended. The department of the year which was the Environment department as well as the pioneer teaching and non-teaching staff of the Buwaate Campus were also commended in a special way.
The service was concluded by the parents being ushered to a sumptuous breakfast which has always been the Greenhill Academy way of hospitality.
From the Rector and every one of us at Greenhill Primary School Buwaate, we would like to thank all the Clergy that were in attendance, the Board members, Pupils, Parents, Members of Staff- both teaching and non-teaching staff for having made the day a success.
We look forward to seeing you at the next Thanksgiving service.
